SEPTA, Lightsource bp Begin Operations on Elk Hill Solar 1 Farm in Pennsylvania

Elk Hill 2 Photo voltaic Farm

A 25 MW photo voltaic venture that’s serving to advance power and sustainability priorities for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has reached business operation. The venture is one in every of two photo voltaic farms that SEPTA and Lightsource bp have partnered on, bringing their joint statewide operational photo voltaic property to greater than 42 MW – sufficient to fulfill about 20% of SEPTA’s electrical energy demand.

Elk Hill Photo voltaic 1, developed beneath an influence buy settlement between SEPTA and Lightsource bp, will cut back greenhouse fuel emissions by greater than 28,000 metric tons of CO2 yearly, equal to offsetting the emissions of 6,160 gasoline burning automobiles. The photo voltaic farm was developed, and is owned and operated by Lightsource bp.

“Along with reducing greenhouse fuel emissions by producing electrical energy from Pennsylvania home-grown renewable power sources, photo voltaic tasks like these will help strengthen native rural economies throughout the Commonwealth,” states Kevin Smith, CEO of the Americas for Lightsource bp. “Our multiuse land methods additional multiply the advantages of those tasks.”

Lightsource bp and venture traders totally funded the venture, an estimated $25 million of funding into new power infrastructure for Pennsylvania. Along with offering cost-competitive, regionally generated renewable power that’s being delivered into the electrical grid, Elk Hill Photo voltaic 1 created 100 jobs in the course of the building of the power.
