A consortium of Dutch and German organisations led by the Netherlands Organisation for Utilized Scientific Analysis (TNO) has developed a tandem photo voltaic PV module that’s aimed to be launched in European markets.
The tandem cell expertise used within the venture relies on industrial passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) crystalline silicon (c-SI) cells with a planar entrance aspect, based on Gianluca Coletti, program supervisor of tandem expertise and functions at TNO (Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek).
Dubbed Fit4Market, the four-year analysis venture granted by the Netherlands Enterprise Company (RVO), goals to industrially manufacture at present used PERC backside cells which can mix perovskite/silicon photo voltaic cells for the tandem photo voltaic PV modules.
The mix of the applied sciences will be capable of obtain a PV module energy conversion effectivity of over 300Wp/m2 versus present ranges of 200Wp/m2 from typical modules.
Coordinated by analysis organisation TNO, the venture is comprised of a consortium of Dutch and German organisations together with photo voltaic PV producer Qcells which can present the underside cells, tools producer SMIT Thermal Options, photo voltaic tech firm Levitech, in addition to Yparex and machine producer Tempress.
“The aim of the collaborative FIT4Market analysis venture is to establish best-practice two-terminal cell improvement utilizing perovskite and silicon cells with a view to develop tandem modules with a aggressive LCOE and industry-leading reliability and efficiency,” says Jorg Muller, Head of cell R&D at Qcells.
The venture is co-funded by the Topsector Power subsidy of the Ministry of Financial Affairs and Local weather Coverage, carried out by the RVO.
Tandem expertise combines industrial silicon expertise for the underside gadget with perovskite expertise as an extra layer which provides the next conversion effectivity.
TNO has been growing its tandem expertise since 2016 and final yr collaborated with a bunch of researchers that achieved a 30.1% conversion efficiency for four-terminal perovskite-silicon PV tandem cells which mixed a perovskite photo voltaic cell with typical silicon photo voltaic cell applied sciences.
