German photo voltaic developer Juwi is within the last levels of commissioning a 36MW photo voltaic farm, accompanied by a 7.5MW battery power storage system (BESS), on the Sukari gold mine in Egypt.
The challenge will use bifacial PV modules mounted with single-axis trackers. Juwi mentioned that its Hybrid IQ micro-grid expertise will allow the BESS to be built-in into the present off-grid community to assist the operation of the diesel energy station at present current on the web site.
The Sukari mine is owned and operated by Centamin, in partnership with the Egyptian authorities.
Stephen Hanson, COO and managing director of Juwi mentioned: “The world’s eyes are actually on Egypt and the end result of the COP27 summit. We’re delighted to have been in a position to ship this flagship challenge to Centamin and, moreover, to have been in a position to reveal the important function that reliable photo voltaic, wind and battery options can already play within the transformation of the useful resource sector on the de-carbonisation pathway.”
The challenge was initially introduced in Might final 12 months, and builds on Juwi’s current portfolio of tasks at mines. In 2016 it accomplished a solar-plus-storage challenge at an Australian copper and gold mine, and developed the same hybrid challenge at one other Australian mine in 2019.
